Ramagundam Police Commissionerate

Ramagundam Police Commissionerate consisting two(2) Districts i.e., 1. Peddapalli (Zone) and 2. Mancherial (Zone).

Image Ramagundam Police Commissionerate was formed on 11-10-2016 with its Head Quarters at Ramagundam and headed by the Commissioner of Police, Ramagundam. Having area of 8,670 sq km and population of 16,02,369, this commissionerate comprises of two revenue districts viz. Mancherial (Population: 8,07,037; Area: 4,056 Sq Km) and Peddapalli (Population: 7,95,332; Area: 4,614 Sq Km) , each headed by a DCP. There are 5 sub-divisions, 12 circles and 44 police stations in the Commissionerate.

Image Ramagundam is a city in the Peddapalli district of the Telangana State. It is the biggest and most populous city in the Peddapalli district. It is located on the banks of the Godavari river. The City of Ramagundam gets its name from a combination of two words: (Rama + Gundam). A famous temple of the Hindu God Lord Rama is situated in the old part of the city and ‘Gundam’ means Water Springs. Ramagundam is known as city of Energy. As of 2015 census, the city had a population of 287,644, making it the 5th most populous in the Telangana state.

Image Ramagundam city is situated in the Godavari valley coalfields and has one of the India's largest Thermal Power stations in south region under NTPC. Mostly industries are connected with Godavarikhani- NTPC Ramagundam. Some of them are Fertilizer Corporation of India, Kesoram Cement, Basanth Nagar, National Fertilizers Limited, Engineers India Limited, TSGENCO thermal power station, Kesoram (Birla) cement factories, NTPC (RSTPS – Ramagundam Super Thermal Power Station) sourcing 2600 MW of power 24/7 and the TSSEB (Telangana State Electricity Board) unit at Ramagundam. Another 1600MW (2x800MW) is proposed as RDM-II as per expansion plan by NTPC Limited. NTPC’s first SPV or Solar photovoltaic unit of capacity 25MW (Phase-I 1x10MW, Phase-II 1x15MW) has been proposed at Ramagundam. This would help in earning carbon credits against use of solar power as renewable energy source. Also, Sripada Yellampalli project , an irrigation project, is located at near of Ramagundam For effective outcomes and performance as also to curb the anti social activities in the neighborhood, many initiatives have been taken under the overall ambit of the Friendly Policing stance of the Telangana Police.

Current situation under the Police Commissionerate is as follows:

1. LAW & ORDER
  • Focus is on creating a peaceful and conducive environment in this important coal belt, so helpful in realizing the industrial and overall economic growth and development.
  • While sensitizing the people against such illegal activities/violations, special raids & drives are being organized regularly. Action is initiated promptly as per law.
  • Due to industrial and coal belt, various trade unions, time to time, keep representing the management and the government about their demands.
  • This area is inhabited by both majority and minority communities who maintain cordial relations with each other. No significant communal incident has been noted so far.

    Formation of ARTs (Accident Resolution Teams) & Identification of black spots:

    Most of the Commissionerate area is covered under Singareni coal belt and the movement of heavy vehicles is in large numbers. Fatal and non-fatal accident rate is alarming. To prevent this menace, Ramagundam Police Commissionerate has come up with an innovatitve and collaborative approach of ARTs. Main objective is to prevent recurrence of the accidents.

    Image Action Plan of the ARTs

    Image a). Identification of the accident prone areas and black spots.
    Image b). Black spot analysis and identifying the underlying engineering and other related causes behind a given accident. The ARTs consist of the local CI, R&B, Panchayath Raj, RTC, RTA, Excise, local Sarpanch and other stake holders.
    Image c). The team visits the fatal accident spot, inspects, collects the data, analyses it and sends up a report, mentioning the short and long term measures to prevent recurrence of the accident on the same spot.
    Image d). Based on the report, a detailed report mentioning the accidents and the measures needed towards accident prevention is sent up to the higher authorities.
    Image e). For instance, sharp curves, bushy areas, damaged culverts, school zones have been identified in the Commissionerate and measures are being taken up with assistance of the concerned departments.

    Besides, the Commissionerate has adopted an “EEE” concept to prevent road accidents in the area.

    • E: Engineering: Identifying the lacunae from the engineering point of view as per the ART.
    • E: Education: Creating awareness among the public regarding do’s and don’ts while driving.
    • E: Enforcement: Enforcing the Motor Vehicle act.


    4.Community Policing
    The entire community policing is being operated under the overall umbrella of Janamythri in the Ramagundam Police Commissionerate. Main objective is to prevent crime and take public support to towards maintenance of law and order in the area. A peaceful environment will induce industrial and economic growth in the metropolitan area of Ramagundam, leading to the overall development of this important industrial corridor.

    4.Citizens feedbackRandom feedback is taken from the petitioners and the complainants with regard to the Cases registered and the petitions received. Feedback is taken as to the reception at the Police Station and the behavior of the police officers. As to whether the enquiries were made by the IO/EO and what is the level of satisfaction of the petitioner about the Police response. This creates confidence among the general public about the accessibility and the response by the local police.
